It’s a rare treat that UK band Saint Etienne tour, let alone play two nights in NYC. They’re hear supporting their very good new album Home Counties, plus this time around they’re backed by a full band. Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone opens.
Paul McCartney @ Nassau Coliseum
Macca is in the home-stretch of his eight-show NYC-area run, with his two shows at Nassau Coliseum. Expect lots of Beatles songs, some Wings and solo cuts too, and maybe a few surprises. If you’ve never seen him, maybe its time to change that.
Chance The Rapper, Francis and the Lights, DJ Oreo @ Forest Hills Stadium
Still riding high off the release of last year’s beloved Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper returns to NYC for two huge shows: Forest Hills Stadium tonight and tomorrow.
Majority Rule, Pg.99, portrayal of guilt, Hand Grenade Job @ Goldsounds
This show includes the anticipated reunions of not one but two classic screamo bands, Majority Rule and Pg.99. It’s the second of two Brooklyn shows for these bands this week, and it’s sold out.
Accept, Metalfier @ Irving Plaza
German metal legends Accept recently released The Rise of Chaos, their fourth album since reuniting in 2009 and fourth with vocalist Mark Tornillo (who replaced Udo Dirkschneider). Udo is missed, but Mark does a pretty great job fronting Accept and the new songs often rip as hard as the classics.
No Warning, Down to Nothing, Backtrack, Twitching Tongues, Higher Power, Vein, Mindforce @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
While Fucked Up are mostly staying quiet, Ben Cook is taking the time to revisit his old hardcore band No Warning, whose first album in 13 years, Torture Culture, will be out in October. Ahead of its release, they play this Brooklyn show with a pretty stacked bill.
Open Mike Eagle, Scallops Hotel, Sammus @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
Open Mike Eagle and Scallops Hotel (aka Milo) are both makers of two of 2017’s best indie-rap albums, and the bill is even better thanks to an opening set by Sammus, who’s on the new OME album.
Torres (Listening Party / Q&A) @ Rough Trade
Torres’ new album (and first for 4AD) is a drastic and impressive change for her. Tonight, you can hear it a few days before its release and stick around to ask Torres a few questions about it.
Shamir, gobbinjr, Zenizen, Hypoluxo @ Silent Barn
It’s Silent Barn’s Fall Fundraiser week, and tonight’s show is headlined by Shamir who used to work the door here (and has gone a little more indie after leaving XL Records).
Pharoah Sanders @ Birdland
A true jazz icon, Pharoah Sanders remains a force at age 76 and begins his five-night Birdland residency with two shows tonight.
Star Wars in Concert (“The Empire Strikes Back”) @ Lincoln Center
Tonight you can catch what is a lot of people’s favorite film in the Star Wars saga, with a live score by the NY Philharmonic.
The Queers, The Ataris, The Fiendz, Red Hymns @ White Eagle Hall
Having recently played Brooklyn, Ramones and Beach Boys-worshipping Lookout! Records vets The Queers are hitting Jersey City tonight.
