LCD Soundsystem @ Brooklyn Steel
What better act to christen Bowery Presents newest venue than LCD Soundsytem? Cool as it will be for those there to get to check out Brooklyn Steel and see the band in a (relatively) intimate setting, tonight’s first of five way-sold-out shows will likely be the first anyone’s heard of LCD’s new album.
Vieux Farka Toure, Innov Gnawa @ BRIC House
It’s a double shot of African sounds at this edition of the ‘BRIC House Sessions” featuring Malian singer and guitarist (and son of Ali) Vieux Farka Toure and Innov Gnawa (a gnawa band comprised of artists from different parts of Morocco).
Xiu Xiu, Dreamcrusher, Gold Dime @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Having released an album of covers of Twin Peaks soundtrack music and the worthy new LP FORGET, adventurous pop act Xiu Xiu have been busy in the last year.
Stevie Nicks, Pretenders @ New Coliseum
The formidable double bill of Stevie Nicks and The Pretenders returns to the NY-area tonight. Let’s hope Stevie still has Chrissie Hynde coming out for “Stop Dragging My Heart Around.”
Ronna and Beverly @ The Bell House
Ronna Glickman & Beverly Ginsberg, best-selling co-authors of You’ll Do A Little Better Next Time: A Guide to Marriage and Re-marriage for Jewish Singles, bring their hit podcast to Brooklyn for two-sold out shows. Rachel Dratch and Chris Gethard are guests at the early show; Jill Kargman and Robin Lord Taylor guest at the late show.
The Marked Men, Night Birds, Honey @ Saint Vitus
Melodic punks The Marked Men’s shows are few and far between so any chance to catch them is one worth taking. This is their first of two Brooklyn shows this week.
Little Simz, Kitty Cash @ House of Vans
British rapper Little Simz has gotten co-signs from Lauryn Hill and Kendrick Lamar, and her recent Stillness In Wonderland album lives up to the hype. Tonight she plays a free Brooklyn show, ahead of her tour with Ab-Soul.
Emily Wells, Shilpa Ray @ Le Poisson Rouge
Hip hop-inspired baroque pop violinist Emily Wells recently released the In The Hot EP and now she’s on tour in support of it. Underrated punk-blues musician Shilpa Ray makes this a great double bill.
Show Me The Body, Dog Breath, ECW, TrippJones @ Secret Tribeca Location
Punk/rap group Show Me The Body recently released a mixtape with many impressive guests (Denzel Curry, Mal Devisa, Moor Mother, Cities Aviv, Eartheater, Dreamcrusher, Princess Nokia, Nolife and more). Tonight’s their hometown release show.
Half Waif, Zula, Yohuna, Emily Yacina @ Silent Barn
Art pop group Half Waif recently signed to Cascine and released the very good form/a EP. They play their hometown again tonight, with some pretty cool openers.
Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band, Rosali @ Trans-Pecos
Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band bring their unique jammy style (somewhere between the Grateful Dead and Television) to Trans-Pecos tonight.
Pile, Mannequin Pussy, Fern Mayo, Gnarwhal @ Baby’s All Right
Boston rockers Pile recently released their latest album, A Hairshirt of Purpose, on Exploding In Sound. Tonight’s their first of two NYC shows this week.
Bowl Train w/ Pete Rock @ Brooklyn Bowl
Questlove’s weekly Bowl Train DJ night will be taken over by the legendary Pete Rock this week. He’s doing a tribute to James Brown.
Gogol Bordello, Devotchka @ Rocks Off Cruise (ACLU benefit)
Gogol Bordello and Devotchka “will be celebrating a fine American tradition of immigration on a sail around New York Harbor.” Proceeds benefit the ACLU.
