You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Sarah Neufeld, Colin Stetson @ Winter Garden at Brookfield Place
Saxophonist extraordinaire Colin Stetson and violinist (and sometimes Arcade Fire member) Sarah Neufeld, who made a record together in 2015, play this free show which is part of WNYC’s New Sounds Live series. 7:30 PM.
Caetano Veloso @ Town Hall
Brazilian musical legend (not to mention author and activist) Caetano Veloso is back in NYC for his first of two consecutive nights at Town Hall.
Holy Ghost!, Classixx, Harriet Brown @ Terminal 5
Likeminded dance duos Holy Ghost! and Classixx will have T5 bouncing tonight.
Eric Bachmann @ living room show
Archers of Loaf and Crooked Fingers singer Eric Bachmann released his first-ever (and very good) solo album earlier this year on Merge and is currently on a living room tour, playing very intimate shows. This one is sold out.
Omni, EZTV, Muuy Biien, Golden Daze, Shifting Sands @ Rough Trade
It just doesn’t seem like October in NYC without CMJ. This is a taste of what could’ve been this year, with an Aquarium Drunkard curated lineup featuring Georgia bands Omni and Muuy Biien, Australia’s Shifting Sands, Brooklyn’s EZTV and more.
Holy Sons, Mary Lattimore @ Union Pool
Holy Sons, the project led by Emil Amos (also of Om, Grails and Lilacs & Champagne), released his latest album Fall of Man last year on Thrill Jockey. Tonight he teams with experimental harpist Mary Lattimore.
Birds In Row, Listener, Mercy Ties @ Don Pedro’s
French melodic hardcore rippers Birds In Row released their latest album, Personal War, last year on Deathwish. This year they’re supporting it on a US tour.
Power, Honey, Barbed Wire @ Alphaville
Melbourne garage punks Power released their debut album Electric Glitter Boogie last year, and it’s worth a listen if you dig the Australian garage rock/post-punk scene, or just anything with glammy swagger and punky energy. This is their first of two NYC shows this week.
Big Ups, Greys, Yucky Duster, Patio @ Aviv
This show celebrates the release of the new 33 1/3 book on Psychocandy, an album Big Ups and Greys are surely very familiar with.
Lil B, Clams Casino, Keyboard Kid @ Playstation Theater
Hip hop producer Clams Casino used to be fairly obscure, but now he works with some of the biggest rappers in the game. He put out his major label debut album earlier this year, and now he’s on a co-headlining tour with the one and only Lil B.
Machinedrum, Daktyl, KUcKA, Mel G @ Le Poisson Rouge
Electronic musician Travis Stewart, better known as Machinedrum, recently released his new album Human Energy, and he celebrates it tonight.
Jaye Bartell, Superfecta, The Post Nobles, Graham Brice @ The Footlight
Jaye Bartell, who has toured with Angel Olsen, Jessica Pratt and Kevin Morby, plays a small show at new Ridgewood venue The Footlight tonight.
Bill Frisell @ Blue Note
An insanely talented guitarist who can play just about any style, Bill Frisell is a wonder to see perform. This week at Blue Note his show is called “When You Wish Upon a Star,” a tribute to the music of Walt Disney films, with help from That Dog’s Petra Haden, plus Eyvind Kang (viola), Thomas Morgan (bass) and Rudy Royston (drums).
Norah Jones @ Sheen Center
Norah just released her new album Day Breaks and wraps up a four-night, sold-out run at the Sheen Center tonight.
