Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bundick teamed with brotherly duo The Mattson 2 for an album of ’70s style jazzy, jammy space funk.
Tinariwen, Dengue Fever @ Brooklyn Bowl
A band of literal rebels from Mali who met in refugee camps over 30 years ago, Tinariwen play a kind of guitar-based Tuareg music that has enough in common with American blues rock that it caught on in the Western World. Their new album Elwan features appearances from Kurt Vile, Mark Lanegan, and this is the second of two nights at Brooklyn Bowl.
Eyegategod, Ecstatic Vision, Netherlands, Haram @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Sludge greats Eyehategod are finally back with frontman Mike IX, who successfully recovered from a liver transplant. This is their first NYC show since Mike rejoined the band, so, needless to say, it’s worth being there for this one.
