Elephant Stone, Las Rosas, Fascinator @ Baby’s All Right
Elephant Stone mix ’60s psych, ’90s Britpop, and a dash of Eastern influence (singer Rishi Dir is an in-demand sitarist) for an appealingly groovy sound. They’re matched well on this bill with Las Rosas, and Aussie ex-pat Fascinator.
Stormzy, Nick Catchdubs @ Market Hotel
British MC Stormzy has gone kind viral for singles like “Know Me From” and “Shut Up,” and it’s not hard to see why. Grime has been buzzy in America again lately, and Stormzy’s songs are very addictive.
Grouper, William Basinski @ MoMA PS1
It’s an afternoon of ethereal ambient drone soundscapes under MoMA PS1’s dome with William Basinski and Grouper. New music will be performed synched to projected visuals.
Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, Brian Chippendale (of Lightning Bolt), Greg Saunier, Frank London @ Trans Pecos
A benefit for Rojava, this event is headlined by NYC guitar great Marc Ribot, but also a collaborative set from drummers Brian Chippendale and Greg Saunier. Great music, good cause.
Benefit for PS 295 feat. “Captain” Kirk Douglas (The Roots), Maimouna Youssef, Charles Sibirsky, Superette (ft. Nels Cline of Wilco), Jessie White, The Gravel Pit, Blue Lightning, & more @ Littlefield
This is the third-annual “Brooklyn Boogie Brunch” featuring food and a bunch of musical acts benefiting a neighborhood school.
PS 34 PTA Sunday Social Benefit feat. Greg Fox, EZTV, Olga Bell (of Dirty Projectors), Meredith Graves (of Perfect Pussy) [EARLY SHOW]; Sannhet, The Range, Noveller, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (of Liturgy), Caleb Braaten (of Sacred Bones) [LATE SHOW] @ Union Pool
Brooklyn venue Union Pool is hosting two benefit concerts in one day for the school P.S. 34, both with widely varied bills. Early show is 2 – 5 PM and the late show starts at 8 PM>
Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which just got extended through May.
Bill Frisell (guitar) Petra Haden (vocals) Eyvind Kang (viola) Thomas Morgan (bass) Rudy Royston (drums) @ Village Vanguard
Experimental guitarist Bill Frisell has played with John Zorn in the grindcore/jazz band Naked City, Lucinda Williams, Richard Hell, Arto Lindsay and more. This five-night run is with that dog.’s Petra Haden on vocals.
