Vic Mensa

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Full Moon Fest w/ Vic Mensa, Larry Heard (aka Mr. Fingers), Kelela, DJ Harvey, Connan Mockasin, Abra, Jeremy Underground, Axel Boman, TOPS, Awesome Tapes From Africa, SELVAGEM, Donna Leake, Zimmer, Pat Lok, Clara 3000, Les Filles @ Governors Island
Full Moon Festival is a “boutique festival experience” and features a disparate group of performers including rapper Vic Mensa, New Zealand eccentric Connan Mockasin, and Montreal’s TOPS.

Vans Warped Tour w/ GWAR, Sick Of It All, Municipal Waste, The Alarm, TSOL, Adolescents, War On Women, Candiria, Hatebreed, Anti-Flag, Strung Out, Valient Thorr, Bad Cop / Bad Cop & more @ Jones Beach
Warped Tour has a surprisingly high amount of cool bands this year, including bloody shock rockers GWAR, hardcore legends Sick Of It All, back-in-action neo-thrashers Municipal Waste, alt-rock/new wave vets The Alarm, West Coast horror punk vets TSOL, melodic hardcore pioneers Adolescents, the abrasive feminist punk band War On Women, the genre-defying Candiria, and still more stuff worth catching.

Asmara, Mixpak Sound System, DJ Young Chow, Ting & Ting, Dadras @ MoMA PS1
It’s another edition of Warm Up, the daytime dance parties under the sun in MoMA PS1’s courtyard. This one’s headlined by LA’s Fade To Mind-signed Asmara.

Cayetana, Worriers, Camp Cope @ Paul’s Tavern
This is a cool bill all around. Cayetana put out their solid sophomore album this year, Worriers recently signed to SideOneDummy for an upcoming album, and Australia’s promising Camp Cope are in the midst of their first-ever US tour.

Kevin McDonald (Kids In The Hall) @ Union Hall
The Kids in the Hall member is taping episodes of his podcast across two shows this weekend. Tonight’s sold out.

Boogarins, Outside World @ Union Pool
Williamsburg’s changed a lot this decade but we’re glad Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder series is still bringing cool band’s to the venue’s backyard. Today it’s Brazil’s excellent Boogarins. The fun starts at 2 PM.

Electric Six, The Wilful Boys @ WFMU Monty Hall
Cheeky Detroit rockers Electric Six have been at it since the early ’00s, still thumbing their noses at the bastards and delivering knowing, over-the-top bravado and danceable riffage.

Buster Pointdexter @ City Winery NYC
New York Dolls frontman David Johansen puts on his sparkly dinner jacket and pompadours his hair for this appearance from good times cabaret alter ego Buster Poindexter.

Chronixx, Chop and Quench @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Reggae singer Chronixx is quickly gaining popularity and set to tour later this year with Nas and Lauryn Hill. First, he graces NYC with a free headlining show, which sounds like a relaxing, good-vibes-filled way to spend a Saturday night.

Glue, Mommy, Haram @ Sunnyvale
Glue make the kind of maniacal, youthful hardcore punk that you really have to see live to fully appreciate. Catch the Texas band in Brooklyn tonight.
