Bardo Pond have been oozing out sludgy, dreamy psych for over 25 years now, and tonight celebrate the release of their new album, Under the Pines.
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Orb, Stonefield @ Webster Hall
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are busy this year with a planned FIVE albums on the way, only one of which has seen the light of day (Flying Microtonal Banana). They’re also touring, tonight being the second of two NYC shows with fellow Aussie bands Orb (not the UK chillout pioneer) and Stonefield.

A Nonesuch Celebration @ BAM
Tonight BAM celebrates “The Label Without Labels” and pays tribute to Bob Hurwitz who has ran Nonesuch from 1984 – 2016. At the heart of this celebrations is a series of piano works written just for this event — by John Adams, Laurie Anderson, Timo Andres, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Adam Guettel, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Nico Muhly, Randy Newman, and Steve Reic -— performed by the composers themselves and others. Also appearing: Kronos Quartet, k.d. lang, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Thile, Dawn Upshaw, Stephin Merritt, Caetano Veloso, and others who have worked closely with Bob during his tenure.
Calvin Love, Pow Pow, Heat @ Berlin
It’s the final night for Canadian acts Calvin Love and Heat’s three-night residency at East Village club Berlin.
Richard Edwards @ Rough Trade
Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s frontman Richard Edwards is doing the solo thing this year, and his new album Lemon Cotton Candy Sunset should instantly appeal to Margot fans. Hear him play the new songs live tonight.
The Blow @ The Kitchen
“We’ve been deep in our cave making a bunch of songs and we are allllllmost done and this show will be us setting up the atmosphere and inviting everyone into it for an hour or so.” – The Blow
Six Organs of Admittance, Silk Purse, Spencer Herbst @ Union Pool
Ben Chasny has been making psych-folk as Six Organs of Admittance for nearly 20 prolific years. He just released Burning The Threshold, one of his most accessible (and best) records to date.
