Phil Lesh & the Terrapin Family Band w/ Rob Barraco, Nicki Bluhm and Robert Randolph @ Brooklyn Bowl
Original Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh returns to the tristate area for four shows this week, concluding with the Capitol Theatre on Halloween. He’s joined by the Terrapin Family Band and guests Nicki Bluhm and Robert Randolph at all shows, and this one is extra special because he’ll also be joined by keyboardist Rob Barraco of Phil’s early-2000s band The Q.
U.S. Girls, Sister Pact @ Mercury Lounge
It’s been a couple years since US Girls great Half-Free, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Meg Remy announced at this show that a new record will be out in early 2018 (she just released the great new single “Mad as Hell”).
Cypress Hill, Rahzel & DJ JS-1, Rob Markmanallow @ Brooklyn Steel
It wouldn’t be Halloween time in NYC without Cypress Hill’s annual Haunted Hill show, and this year they do it at the new Brooklyn Steel venue.
Julien Baker @ Rough Trade
After rapidly rising in the two years since the release of her instantly-great debut Sprained Ankle, Julien Baker finally returned on Friday with her first album for Matador, Turn Out the Lights. She played a big NYC show at Town Hall on release day, and tonight she’s back in NYC for a MUCH smaller show (and probably not as long a set). She goes on at 6:30 sharp, and there’s a Q&A afterwards.
Fabio Frizzi @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Soundtrack composer Fabio Frizzi, who worked closely with Italian horror master Lucio Fulci, willl perform a tribute to Fulci, including live suites from the director’s seminal works such as Zombi 2, Seven Notes In Black, The Beyond, and more. with imagery from the films.
Jessie Ware, Herbert Holler (DJ) @ Le Poisson Rouge
Jessie Ware usually has one foot in pop music and one in forward-thinking electronic music, and for this year’s Glasshouse, she went further into big, ’90s-style pop than ever before.
Helms Alee, Primitive Weapons, Husbandry @ Saint Vitus
Boundary-pushing metal band Helms Alee returned last year with the crushing and awesome Stillicide (Sargent House). They’ve been on tour opening for Boris, and are also squeezing in some headlining shows like this one.
Shannon and the Clams, Bloody Holly @ Baby’s All Right
In town for Jonathan Toubin’s Haunted Hop, the great Shannon & The Clams are playing a couple other NYC-area shows before Halloween.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band @ McKittrick Hotel
The house band at New Orleans’ legendary Preservation Hall play their first of two NYC shows this week.
YQY Workout w/ Ilana Glazer & Phoebe Robinson @ Union Hall
Ilana and Phoebe warm up for their YQY (“Yaaas Queen Yaaas”) tour with two tiny shows at Union Hall tonight. Sold out.
Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
It’s the Halloween edition (and second-to-last ever) of Wyatt Cenac’s Night Train, with Chris Gethard, Jean Grae, Roy Wood Jr, Adira Amram and The Experience, Phoebe Robinson, Prakash Puru, a costume contest, and more.
