Whitney, Weyes Blood, Moses Sumney @ Prospect Park Bandshell
This is a great indie triple bill that’s totally free. The gentle twang of Whitney is perfect for an outdoor stage, Weyes Blood’s live show has turned into quite the spectacle, and Moses Sumney’s voice is a real treat to hear in person. Doors are at 6 PM — make sure to show up on time to get in.
RJD2, Alex English @ Brooklyn Steel
Underground hip hop producer RJD2 remains very active. His latest solo album was last year’s Dame Fortune, which features Son Little, Blueprint, Phonte, and more.
Yes, Todd Rundgren, Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island
Prog greats Yes have been at it forever, and their current tour is a reminder of just how rich their discography is. For these shows, they “will play one track live, from each studio album from YES (1969) to DRAMA (1980), chronologically, with a few surprises thrown in.” It’s a good lineup all around with Todd Rundgren, and Carl Palmer, the only surviving member of ELP.
Natalia Lafourcade, Vagabon @ Damrosch Park
Part of the free Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, tonight’s show is headlined by Mexican music star Natalia Lafourcade, but do get there early to catch the very talented Vagabon whose band tonight includes members of Mitski, Julie Byrne’s band and more.
Slothrust, Tancred, Mal Blum and the Blums @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Grungy indie rockers Slothrust headline this show, and there’s solid support from the Polyvinyl-signed Tancred and the Don Giovanni-signed Mal Blum.
DOOMSQUAD, Ritual Humor, Omphalos @ Our Wicked Lady
Toronto’s DOOMSQUAD recall the dancepunk days of the mid-’00s (we’re talking !!! and Out Hud), mixed with a modern mysticism. Playing atop Our Wicked Lady’s roof should make for a memorable evening.
Psychic Ills, $mall Change @ Output (roof)
More roof action: Brooklyn psych outfit (think JAMC and Spacemen 3) play on Output’s lovely roof tonight.
John Doe (of X), Naked Soul @ Rubin Museum of Art
X will be on tour later this year but here’s a chance to see frontman John Doe up close and personal.

It’s day one of the two-day NY Deathfest at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus, with tons of bands of the death metal and grind varieties.
Kath Bloom, Diane Cluck, Erin Durant @ Sunnyvale
Any chance to see folk legend Kath Bloom is a chance worth taking, and this show’s got two very good openers too.
Jane Wiedlin w/ Elettrodomestico @ Iridium
Guitarist for The Go-Go’s, Jane Wiedlin penned many of their greatest songs, including “Our Lips Our Sealed” (a co-write with Terry Hall of Fun Boy Three), and she’s had solo hits, too, not to mention duetting with Sparks on “Cool Places.” She’s currently one half of duo Elettrodomestico with Pietro Straccia.
