Roisin Murphy, Infinity Ink @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Former Moloko singer Roisin Murphy is currently on her first-ever solo tour of the U.S., rolling into NYC for her first show in eight years. She’s a magnetic performer, a great dancer, with a flair for creative fashion. Expect multiple costume changes and a few Moloko nuggets too. Part of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival.

Roisin Murphy is the big highlight at BEMF tonight, but other shows include Benji B/Lunice, Danny Daze/Jimmy Edgar, and Angel-Ho/Sadaf.
New York Comedy Festival
The 2016 edition of NYCF is in full swing at venues all over the city, and Friday options include Chris D’Elia at Beacon Theatre; Mike Birbiglia’s “Thank God for Jokes” comedy special taping at BAM; Marc Maron at Carnegie Hall; Fred Armisen merging music and jokes at Town Hall; Hannibal Buress at The Apollo; Cameron Esposito at Skirball Center; and more.
Wrekmeister Harmonies, Kayo Dot, Miserable @ Trans-Pecos
Two bands with roots in metal but who take their sound in about a thousand different directions, Wrekmeister Harmonies and Kayo Dot, team up at Trans-Pecos tonight. The show is opened by shoegazer Miserable (aka ex-Whirr singer Kristina Esfandiari, who also records as King Woman).
Metro Boomin, 21 Savage @ PlayStation Theater
Future/Young Thug/Drake/Kanye producer Metro Boomin puts on this show ahead of the election, dubbed “Young Metro Don’t Trust Trump.” He also recently sold “fuck Trump” shirts on his website, so things might get a little political tonight. 21 Savage, who will tour with Young Thug later this year, opens the show.
Tegan & Sara, Torres @ Theater at Madison Square Garden
Tegan & Sara fully made the jump to being a pop act, and their new music is often as enjoyable as their earlier stuff. Grungy opener Torres is just as worth seeing.
Hurray for the Riff Raff, Making Movies, Las Cafeteras, Downtown Boys @ Bowery Ballroom
This show is the one-night Nosotros Fest, “a festival dedicated to uniting Latinxs people of all backgrounds to come together in the name of art, expression and protest.” The headliners are the great alt-country band Hurray For The Riff Raff. If you’re going, we recommend showing up early to catch the confrontational, sax-fueled political punk band Downtown Boys too.
Incendiary, Red Death, Manipulate, Seperated @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
It’s a very solid night of heavy hardcore at the new Brooklyn Night Bazaar. Considering its vibe is almost like an elks lodge, this show should make any hardcore fans who grew up in the suburbs feel right at home.
Foals, Bear Hands, Kiev @ United Palace Theatre
Mixing anthemic atmospherics and mathy, danceable rhythms, Foals are masters of the big show and should be pitching to the back rows of United Palace tonight, as frontman Yannis Philippakis will likely be spending some of the show in the crowd.
Honus Honus, Pink Mexico @ ALPHAVILLE
Man Man singer Honus Honus is doing the solo thing this year, and his debut solo LP Use Your Delusion isn’t too different from his main band (not a bad thing).
Sonic Avenues, Berwanger, Steve Adamyk Band, The Young Rochelles @ Cake Shop
Tourmates Sonic Avenues and Steve Adamyk Band both make sharp, ripping garage punk. And right in the middle of them is the solo band of Josh Berwanger, who reunited with The Anniversary earlier this year. Cool show all around.
Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Dead Bars, Crazy and The Brains, Cicada Radio, Nervous Triggers @ Funhouse
Bad Cop/Bad Cop are a new-ish band signed to Fat Wreck Chords, whose album was produced by Fat Mike, but they recall the label’s most classic era. Crazy and the Brains, who run this venue, inject classic-style punk with a nice dose of xylophone.
All Get Out, Gates, Microwave, Long Time @ The Studio at Webster Hall
All Get Out always sounded kinda like Manchester Orchestra, and for their first album in five years, they actually got two members of that band (including singer/songwriter Andy Hull) to produce and co-write it. If you miss I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child-style Manchester Orchestra, All Get Out may be for you.
The Blasters @ Hill Country BBQ
Led, as always, by Phil Alvin (his brother Dave hasn’t been in the band for a while), The Blasters are cowpunk royalty.
Cheech & Chong @ The Paramount
The original pot comics, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are reloading their ’70s-era stage act that got them acclaim (and record and movie deals). Expect classic bits, lots of songs, and maybe a little politics.
Grouplove, Muna, Dilly Dally @ Warsaw
Popular indie/alt rockers Grouplove headline this show, and if you’re going, we especially think you should show up on time for Toronto grunge-punks Dilly Dally.
