Steve Gunn, Endless Boogie, 75 Dollar Bill @ The Bell House
Steve Gunn’s Matador debut, Eyes on the Lines, may be the mellow bliss-out guitar album of the year, radiating warm vibes, impressive chops and, Steve’s keen observational lyrical style. He wraps up a busy year with this holiday show tonight.
Twin Peaks, together PANGEA, Golden Daze @ Webster Hall
Twin Peaks’ shows are rowdy, raucous happenings that somewhat belies the songcraft these Chicagoans are capable of. With the openers on this show, expect things to stay at “bananas” levels of energy the whole night.
Bon Iver, Polica (duo) @ The Capitol Theatre
Bon Iver continue their 10-show NYC-area run in support of this year’s experimental, heavily electronic 22, A Million. This one has them just a train ride outside of NYC at the Capitol Theatre. It’s the second of two shows on this run being opened by their pals Polica, who are playing as a duo and trying out some new material.
Sick of It All, Indecision, Inhuman @ Saint Vitus
NYHC legends Sick Of It All are playing three small shows in three different boroughs, starting tonight, in celebration of their 30th anniversary. This Brooklyn show has two veteran Brooklyn bands opening.
Yoshimio, Susie Ibarra, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe @ Roulette
Yoshimio of Boredoms has been doing a run of NYC shows lately and it continues tonight, with two other talented musicians who frequent the local avant-garde scene.
The Black Queen, Telefon Tel Aviv @ Gramercy Theatre
The Black Queen is a dark electronic project from members of various bands known for their use of dark electronics. It features vocalist Greg Pulciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Pulciato with Telefon Tel Aviv’s Joshua Eustis (who also opens this show).
Diplo, Jubilee, Michna @ Output
Diplo is in town for Jingle Ball… which you probably want to avoid at all costs. Luckily, he also does this much smaller late night show. (Emphasis on late — it goes from 10 PM to 6 AM.)
White Pisces, Bad Heaven, Living Room @ Terra Firma
White Pisces is 3/4 of Slow Warm Death (everyone but singer John Galm), and Bad Heaven is John Galm’s new solo project, making this show a reunion of sorts.
MK, Omar S, mOma+Guy @ Analog BKNY
House music veteran MK returns to the stage tonight, with one of the genre’s best newer-comers, Omar S, opening.
Simon Doom, Roya, Insecure Men @ Berlin
Insecure Men is the brand new solo project from Saul of Fat White Family and this is the project’s first live show. Also on the bill: Roya, whose new album will be out via Burger next year.
Plastic Pinks, Monograms, Tall Juan, Nick Llobet @ Shea Stadium
June Summer and his half-brother Augie Pink formed Plastic Pinks after moving to Miami from Puerto Rico, making spirited garage punk. Their debut was produced by AJ Davilla.
The Blind Shake, The Battery Electric, Cicada Radio @ WFMU Monty Hall
Minneapolis dystopian bashers The Blind Shake released new album Celebrate Your Worth earlier this fall and has all the band’s signifiers: big, blunt riffs, animal beat drumming and sneering, shouty vocals. They’re terrific live.
Parquet Courts @ Wonder Bar (Asbury Park)
Having released what might be their best LP yet (Human Performance), Parquet Courts are firing on all cylinders these days and warm up for Saturday’s big Knockdown Center show with this NJ show tonight.
Chick Corea @ Blue Note
Legendary jazz pianist, composer and 22-time Grammy Award winner Chick Corea turned 75 in June, and has been celebrating this milestone with a series of dates at The Blue Note Jazz Club.
