One of the most underrated groups in NYC right now, neo-soul band OSHUN headline this show tonight. They’re kinda like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Digable Planets all rolled into one, and they have so much natural talent and confidence.
Young M.A, Creek Boyz, Yerr Eli, Korleone @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Young M.A has been one of the hottest names in New York rap since releasing her breakthrough single “OOOUUU,” and she has not slowed down since then. Her debut album is expected this year, and going by recent singles, it should be a good one.
Zero Boys, The Krays @ The Kingsland
Midwest hardcore greats Zero Boys have been reunited for a bit now, and they released Monkey, their first album in 21 years, back in 2014. They’re keeping the reunion going and hitting new-ish Greenpoint venue The Kingsland tonight.
Trace Mountains, Operator Music Band, Spirit Was @ ALPHAVILLE
LVL UP‘s David Benton has been releasing music as Trace Mountains for a few years now, but the project’s first proper album, A Partner To Lean On, is just out today. They celebrate tonight with the groovy/krauty Operator Music Band and more.
Curtis Harding, Un Blonde @ Bowery Ballroom
Curtis Harding’s 2017 album Face Your Fear (produced in part by Danger Mouse) is a great modern slice of psychedelic soul, and he’s an engaging, high-energy live performer, too.
Drive-By Truckers, Erika Wennerstrom (of Heartless Bastards) @ Brooklyn Bowl
Fueled by state of the union turmoil, Drive-by Truckers delivered one of their most powerful records to date with 2016’s American Band and it’s been powering fiery live shows since.
A Tribe Called Quest pop-up @ House of Vans
A Tribe Called Quest have a signature line of Vans footwear and the group are celebrating with a two-day pop-up shop. Autographs will be signed, there are DJs and performances too…all TBA.
Despacio @ Knockdown Center
James Murphy and Soulwax’s David and Stephen Dewaele are bringing Despacio — their “one-of-a-kind sound system designed to deliver absolutely optimum audio to the dance floor, showcasing classic records in entirely new dimensions” — to three nights at Knockdown Center.
Hanni El Khatib, The Buttertones @ Rough Trade
Two southern California soulful garage rock bands (both signed to Innovative Leisure) will bring good times and West Coast vibes tonight.
Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has just been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
