Modern Baseball, Jeff Rosenstock, Pinegrove @ Baby’s All Right
We’re still waiting to hear more about Modern Baseball’s supposedly quite different-sounding new album, but in the meantime tonight we’ll get to hear old favorites in a place way smaller than they usually play. (And maybe a new one too?) Between the always-fun Jeff Rosenstock, and young indie rockers Pinegrove who release their very good new album today, this show should be great all around. Sold out.
PUP, Pkew Pkew Pkew @ Saint Vitus
Toronto punks PUP have always played like they were rock stars since their earliest shows at tiny DIY spots, and now they’re moving up in the world for real. Their next NYC show is at Music Hall of Williamsburg, so tonight’s Vitus show might be the smallest place you see them here for a while. Sold out.
Chuck Ragan & the Camaraderie, Cory Branan @ Rough Trade
When Chuck Ragan’s not making raucous punk rock with Hot Water Music, he strips things down for his folk-oriented solo project.
Screaming Females, Dark Thoughts @ Monty Hall
NJ shredders Screaming Females always put on a killer show and they change it up a lot too. Tonight’s their first of two shows at home state venue Monty Hall. Both sold out.
Fleshgod Apocalypse, Carach Angren, Abigail Williams, Winter Nights @ Gramercy Theatre
Abigail Williams ditched their symphonic metal and melodic metalcore styles a while ago. They’re now a black metal band, and last year’s The Accuser is pretty great. Tonight they open for the classically-tinged tech-death band Fleshgod Apocalypse, who probably do fit in better with their older material.
Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s finally putting it to bed, but not before this six-week run.
