Jessica 6, Cakes Da Killa, Eli Escobar @ Gramercy Theatre
Jessica 6, the Brooklyn group led by Hercules and Love Affair collaborator Nomi Ruiz, returned this year with the guest-filled The Capricorn EP. One of those guests, Eli Escobar, is on tonight’s bill, and the show is rounded out by the great local rapper Cakes Da Killa.
The Bouncing Souls, World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Low Budgets, Miss TK and the Revenge @ Stone Pony
NJ punk heroes The Bouncing Souls kick off their annual Home for the Holidays shows tonight at Asbury Park’s Stone Pony. Each night has different openers, and this time it’s cabaret punks World/Inferno Friendship Society, Dead Milkmen spinoff The Low Budgets (who reunited earlier this year), and Lifetime spinoff Miss TK and the Revenge (who haven’t played in a while).
The Roots @ The Paramount
The busiest band in rap (or maybe any genre), The Roots, are always up to something, whether it’s being Fallon’s house band, churning out quality albums at an alarming rate, throwing festivals, doing noteworthy collaborations, or something else entirely. Tonight they play a club show just outside of NYC.
Yellow Claw, Fetty Wap, Slander, 12th Planet, Moksi, LNY TNZ @ Pier 36
EDM trio Yellow Claw headline this show but we’re most excited about Fetty Wap, melodic rap’s most unstoppable breakout of the year.
Dar Williams’ “Christians, Pagans & Other Hipsters” w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche & special guests @ Bell House
Long-running folk pop singer Dar Williams does her holiday show tonight with another folk singer, Lucy Wainwright Roche (whose talent basically runs in her family). Special guests are promised too.
Darlene Love @ B.B. King’s
As star of one of the greatest holiday albums ever made — A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector — Darlene Love Christmas shows are always full of joy and good cheer.
Hot Chip (DJ Set), Tom of England, Nathan Harrington, Billy Caldwell @ Good Room
Spend your Boxing Day night dancing away with Hot Chip on the decks.
