Stars, Geographer @ Bowery Ballroom
Canadian band Stars have been making heartfelt, anthemic pop for more than 15 years and are still going strong, as heard on last year’s No One Is Lost.
Pentagram, Electric Citizen, Satan’s Satyrs @ Saint Vitus
Stoner/doom metal as we know it probably wouldn’t exist without the influence of Pentagram, so it’s exciting that they still tour and put out records. Tonight’s their first of two Saint Vitus shows, in support of the new Curious Volume LP.
Talib Kweli w/ live band @ Blue Note (2 shows)
Talib Kweli recently dropped a free album, Fuck the Money, and he already announced its followup: a collaborative LP with 9th Wonder. Surely he’s got no lack of new material to play, but we’ll probably hear some classics too.
Mal Blum, Adult Mom, Emilyn Brodsky, Painted Zeros @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
Mal Blum’s new full-band album is out on Don Giovanni, and it’s a bit more rockin’ than the earlier anti-folk type stuff. Tonight’s the release show.
Larkin Grimm, Nandi Rose Plunkett, Johanna Cranitch, Alena Spanger, Adrianne Lenker @ Manhattan Inn
The October edition of ‘The Hum’ kicks off at Manhattan Inn tonight. Each show has different artists collaborating with each other, and it’s free with a $5-10 suggested donation.
Homeshake @ Elvis Guesthouse
Homeshake frontman Peter Sagar will be playing a solo show tonight, including songs from the band’s new album, Midnight Snack.
Terry Riley Festival @ National Sawdust
In celebration of iconic modern composer Terry Riley’s 80th birthday, National Sawdust (only its third day open) is throwing this three day festival where he’ll collaborate with a variety of other musicians.
Wyatt Cenac@ Littlefield
Wyatt Cenac is back in the Night Train drivers seat and tonight he welcomes comedians D.C. Benny, Tim Dillon, Matt Ingebreston, and Nina Daniels.
