BrooklynVegan is presenting this free show by Porches, aka Aaron Maine’s appealing, constantly evolving catchall pop project who are now signed to Terrible Records. Empress Of will DJ beforehand. If you RSVP’d for this free show, know it does not gaurantee entry (which is based on capacity). Get there early!
Vision Fortune @ Baby’s All Right
Stick around after Porches to catch UK duo Vision Fortune who make dark brooding music not unlike Liars or Disappears. The band’s new album, Country Music, is twang-free and out on ATP’s label. This is their first of two NYC shows.
Electric Wizard, Satan’s Satyrs @ Webster Hall
Electric Wizard haven’t played NYC in over a decade, and the UK doom metal greats are finally coming back tonight. They’ve released a handful of records in that time period, including last year’s killer Time to Die which is as evil and psychedelic as you’d want Electric Wizard to be. Tonight’s show is old out.
Alvvays, Kiwi @ Bowery Ballroom
Canadian band Alvvays struck a nerve with their 2014 debut that was maybe the most well-recieved janglepop record since The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s first album. Sold out.
Fat White Family @ Mercury Lounge
UK band Fat White Family are back entertaining/scaring audiences with their dark-hued brand of scuzz-rock. It should be said that despite their (deserved) wild rep, FWF have a load of great songs and keep it together live, despite the antics.
Xiu Xiu, Mantra Percussion @ Merkin Concert Hall
The Ecstatic Music Festival continues tonight, bringing together outsider songwriter Xiu Xiu with drum ensemble Mantra Percussion to premiere “Extinction Meditation, “a 4-movement piece about the impending environmental apocalypse due to begin in the year 2050.”
Mike Simonetti, Peaking Lights (Acid Test), HUERCO S., Dubbel Dutch, Jacques Renault, Max Graef @ Output
This stacked electronic show is free before midnight with RSVP, and notable features Peaking Lights doing one of their Acid Test sets.
Aye Nako, Earth Girls, Fleabite, Arm Candy, Alice @ Silent Barn
This is a pretty good bill of mostly punk bands, headlined by local greats Aye Nako. It’s worth catching Chicago’s Earth Girls (Dirt Cult Records) while they’re in town too.
Rocky Votolato, Ben Barnett (of Kind of Like Spitting), Cassie Ramone @ Suburbia
This is an all-around great bill of rock singers stripping things down and playing solo, with Rocky Votolato (new LP coming on No Sleep), Ben Barnett (whose Kind of Like Spitting played full-band in NYC yesterday), and former Vivian Girl Cassie Ramone.
Binky Griptite @ Greenwich House Music School
Dap Kings guitarist and bandleader, Binky plays Greenwich House’s “Uncharted” series tonight.
The Lox, Skyzoo, Chris Rivers, DARK, Nino Man @ The Wick
The LOX have been quietly making a comeback lately, having put out two gritty EPs in the past two years (their first releases since 2000). They play their hometown again tonight.
Fetty Wap, Funk Flex at Just Blaze’s House Party @ Webster Hall
Tonight’s the one-year anniversary of Just Blaze’s weekly House Party at Webster Hall, and he’s bringing “Trap Queen” rapper Fetty Wap along once again.
Smoke DZA, Jesse Marco, Daytona, Adrian Lau, Al-Doe, Gloss Gang @ The Westway
Prolific NYC rapper Smoke DZA just put out his Ringside 3 EP, the third in a series of EPs with R.F.C. producer 183rd. Tonight he plays this free show, which is presented by producer Harry Fraud.
Deborah Harry @ Cafe Carlyle
Blondie singer Deborah Harry continues her residency at Upper East side cabaret supper club Cafe Carlyle tonight. It runs through April 4.
