Trash Talk, Ratking, Lee Bannon @ Webster Hall Marlin Room
Raging hardcore band Trash Talk pretty much never play a show that doesn’t have both the band and crowd going apeshit, and tonight’s will likely be just that. Alt-rappers Ratking and hip hop producer Lee Bannon open.
The Growlers, Broncho @ Baby’s All Right
Party rockers The Growlers released Chinese Fountain back in September which found the band in a laid-back mood, drawing inspiration from twangy early-’60s rock, with a few danceable numbers in there as well. Tonight’s their first show of a five-night-stand at Baby’s All Right with Broncho.
Self Defense Family, Creative Adult @ Saint Vitus
Makthaverskan had to unfortunately drop off this show due to visa issues, but it’s still a great bill with arty post-hardcore band Self Defense Family and dark punks Creative Adult. The tour also hits Webster Studio on Sunday, and Makthaverskan are still set to be here for that one.
Nothing Changes w/ HTRK, Pop. 1280 @ Home Sweet Home
Australian post punk act HTRK released Psychic 9-5 Club, their most hushed, electronic-based album to date. Expect volume to be high tonight, however, when they play late night goth party Nothing Changes. Pop. 1280 makes this an appealing double bill, especially if you don’t have to get up early on Thursday morning.
Kelela, DJ Ezra Koenig, DJ Alexis taylor, DJ E*vax, DJ Business Class @ MoMA Armory Party benefit
R&B boundary pusher Kelela headlines this year’s MoMA Armory Party benefit at MoMA’s Agnes Gund Garden Lobby with a two-hour DJ set from Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, plus additional DJ sets from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, plus Business Class (aka Lawrence Abu Hamdan who is also the official commissioned artist for The Armonry Show) and E*vax (Ratatat).
Grounders, Twist, Sun Cut Flat @ Cake Shop
It’s a double dose of Toronto pop tonight at Cake Shop with the hazy sounds of Grounders and ’60s-ish duo Twist.
Jangula, Ski Lodge, Piers, Stalking Gia @ Pianos
Ski Lodge, who got a little more synthy on their new single, are doing a joint residency with fellow Brooklyn band Jangula every Wednesday in March, and tonight is the first of those shows.
Alice Boman, Julie Byrne, Cassandra Jenkins @ Rough Trade
Swedish singer Alice Boman makes spare, delicate music as heard on last year’s compilation, EP II + Skisser . Her songs should play well in an intimate room like Rough Trade.
GDFX, Daniel Pearce / Andrew Smiley duo, Kate Henderson’s Drone Acupuncture Installation, Sapropelic Pycnic @ Trans-Pecos
One of the few solo shows Greg Fox (GDFX) is playing in NYC before his band Liturgy heads out on tour this spring.
Animal Collective (DJ set), DJ Dogsynth, Spencer Sweeney
Animal Collective do another of their increasingly frequent DJ sets in NYC tonight. This one’s at Output, rather than their usual home of Brooklyn Bowl, and it’s just with Deakin and Geologist.
Dropkick Murphys @ The Paramount
It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, and what better time to see Boston’s favorite Celtic punks Dropkick Murphys? Tonight continues their 5-show run in the NYC-area.
Big Terrific @ Cameo
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg’s Cameo. No word on who’s performing tonight, but Max usually lets us know via his Twitter.
