Chance the Rapper @ Webster Hall
Chance the Rapper has two albums planned for this year, one on his own and one with a live band. He’s still being pretty mysterious about most of it, but the bits we’ve heard have sounded pretty great. Maybe we’ll get some more sneak peeks at new stuff tonight.
Dipset @ BB King’s
The full Dipset crew — Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey — are finally officially back in action and have a new mixtape planned for this year. The songs they’ve put out from it so far have them sounding like they’re still in great form. Tonight’s the first of two NYC shows on this tour.
Screaming Females @ Rough Trade
Screaming Females are already known for their shredding guitar solos, but the new album Rose Mountain has the band focusing a little more on great choruses. It’s up their with the best of their previous work. Tonight’s the first of four NYC shows on this tour in support of it, and to get in you have to buy the new album at the Rough Trade store today.
The Twilight Sad, Port St. Willow @ Baby’s All Right
The Twilight Sad’s last headlining show here was playing their 2007 debut in full, but they also put a new album out very soon after that. Now they return and we’ll presumably hear more from the new one this time.
Timber Timbre, Torres @ Bowery Ballroom
Timber Timbre returned last year with Hot Dreams that had their unique brand of noir folk sounding good as ever. Tonight their current tour stops in NYC for its second of two Bowery Ballroom shows, and the equally great Torres opens.
Buke and Gase, Landlady @ Mercury Lounge
Buke & Gase make their own instruments, and they also get pretty eccentric sounds out of them. Catch them tonight with Adam Schatz’s band Landlady.
Beat Market, Le Couleur, Second Still @ Pianos
Montreal trio Le Couleur take elements of disco, electro and francophone styles, add a bit of glitter and voila: an appealing, danceable sound. This free, early show is in celebration of their new EP and is with another Montreal band, Beat Market.
Elvis Perkins @ The Standard
Elvis Perkins’ folky new album is out today, and while his proper tour won’t hit NYC until April, tonight you can catch this free one-off at The Standard’s Penthouse. To attend you need to RSVP by sending an email to AOhayon@standardhotels.com
