Sharon Van Etten, Leon Bridges @ Warsaw
Sharon Van Etten’s 2014 album, Are We There, ended up on a ton of year-end lists (including our own), and deservedly so because few of her peers can craft a song like SVE. Tonight she concludes her 2-night stand at Warsaw. Sold out.
Swearin’, The Goodbye Party, Attendant @ Baby’s All Right
Half of Swearin’ is heading out on a long tour later this year as members of Waxahatchee’s first band, but first they’ll squeeze in their own show. Opening are two solid bands — The Goodbye Party and the Radiator Hospital-related Attendant — who go well with Swearin’s trad-style indie rock.
Le1f, Mykki Blanco, Kingdom @ NYU Kimmel Center
Le1f and Mykki Blanco are two of NYC’s best and most eccentric young rappers, and tonight they team up for this show which is free for NYU students and only $5 for the general public. Night Slugs-signed electronic musician Kingdom opens.
JD Samson, Alexis Blair-Penny, Angel-Favorite, Eli Escobar, Nancy Whang, Amber Valentine @ Union Pool
Tonight is JD Samson’s party, Pat, that focuses on “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.” There are DJs in the front room and the back performance space, and it’s free.
Emmy the Great, Clementine & the Galaxy @ Mercury Lounge
Emmy the Great gets poppier than her previous work on her new S EP, and her current tour is as a three-piece band with choreographed dance moves and on-screen projections. Tonight’s her second of two NYC shows on the tour.
Nightmares On Wax (DJ Set), Sticky Dojah @ Verboten
Nightmares on Wax helped pioneer the trip-hop sound while never being fully associated with the genre, with records out on such labels as Mo’Wax, Warp, and Matador.
