Cursive‘s Tim Kasher had originally planned a “Sweet 16” celebration of his project The Good Life‘s beloved 2004 LP Album of the Year in 2020, but we all know what happened next. Tim seems have taken the delays in good cheer, joking onstage at Brooklyn Made on Wednesday night (10/11) that he doesn’t remember what happened that year, and that a 19th anniversary tour like his current outing is just what everyone does.
Tim also said that revisiting the album on the road had been going pretty great for the band, and witnessing them play it, it’s easy to see why. The concept album detailing the dissolution of a relationship more than holds up, and their impassioned performance infuses it with as much urgency as if it were new material. The night reached a climax with their opus, “Inmates,” which they played all 9+ minutes of with much of the crowd singing along to every word. Tim stepped away from the mic to sing the album-closing “Two Years This Month” unamplified, a potent ending note.
The Good Life also played some other material before and after the Album of the Year set, including an intense rendition of “O’Rourke’s, 1:20 a.m.” and “You Don’t Feel Like Home To Me.” See pictures of them and openers Doom Flower, and a few attendee-taken video clips, below.
