Snoop Dogg / Modest Mouse / The Dwarves / swingers

Chicago represent! The Dwarves started here before packing up and taking its pure punk to California. In keeping with the retro vibe, the band performed, in its entirety, “Blood, Guts, and …” its 1990 album whose full title decorum forbids listing here. The band slid into more shocking lyrics, clued in perhaps by the guitarist wearing a black jockstrap, a mask and his instrument. But make no mistake, this set was a noisy, aggro wonder. Riot Fest has so, so many bands that sound alike, you forget how dangerous and subversive punk used to be. Titles like “Back Seat of My Car,” and “Let’s …” sounded as fresh and gloriously vile as they did in 1990. [Chicago Tribune]
Day 1, day 2 and then finally Riot Fest Chicago wrapped up on Sunday with Modest Mouse, Snoop Dogg, Tenacious D, L7, Cypress Hill, Manchester Orchestra, De La Soul, Jimmy Cliff, Andrew WK, Hum, The Dwarves, Alvvays, Foxing, Beach Slang, a surprise Taking Back Sunday set on a small side stage (following a headlining set the previous day) and more.
