Jenny Hval & dancers played an elaborate ‘Blood Bitch’ release show at LPR (pics)

This past Friday (9/30), Jenny Hval returned with her great new album Blood Bitch on Sacred Bones, and that same day, she brought her tour to a packed Le Poisson Rouge in NYC’s Greenwich Village. Jenny’s shows have really become full-fledged performance art, with backup dancers who stripped, over the course of the show, down from vampire capes to (very detailed) flesh-colored bodysuits. There was an intermission-type thing mid-show where four of the dancers, stopped, ate, and drank to celebrate the new album’s release and then handed out balloons (stuck into apples), spelling out “Blood Bitch.” Then they offered the crowd grapes, which Jenny promised “they’re not poison, and they’re not blood!”. At other parts, dancers wrapped themselves in saran wrap, and dropped confetti over themselves and Jenny. One of them lied on the table and another put pieces of leftover food all over her. There was music, of course, too and Jenny sounded great.

Opening was serpentwithfeet, the crooning NYC singer who recently released a great orchestral R&B EP on Tri Angle Records. Pictures of the show are in the gallery above.
