Hurray for the Riff Raff played Music Hall of Williamsburg with NNAMDÏ (pics, video, setlist)

Hurray for the Riff Raff released their fantastic new album, The Past Is Still Alive, a couple of weeks ago, and they’re in the midst of their tour supporting it, which stopped in Brooklyn on Tuesday night (3/5) for a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Alynda Segarra and their backing band, which included Chicago artist NNAMDÏ (who also played a solo set to open the night) and saxophone player Lynn Ligammari for part of the set, brought the country-inflected The Past Is Sitll Alive material vividly to life, and it all sounded fantastic. They played most of the new album, and also included a few older songs, including Small Town Heroes‘ “The Body Electric,” which Alynda said “started it all.” After an encore break, the band came back out for a cover of Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation,” then broke into a moving rendition of beloved The Navigator track “Pa’lante,” with Alynda reciting “If I Must Die” by late Palestinian poet and professor Refaat Alareer towards the end of the song.
