Champaign, IL heavy shoegaze vets Hum played their first show since 2019 on Friday at night one of the NYC edition Slide Away festival, and they came back for another round on Saturday (5/16). Those who went both nights were treated to a largely new mix of songs — they only repeated four they’d played the previous night, including their hit “Stars” — pulling both from 2020’s Inlet and older material.

Hum had a large part of the floor moshing on Saturday, and there was some crowd surfing too. They were as loud as you’d hope, and heavy as hell. See their night two setlist below.
Nothing, whose Domenic “Nicky” Palermon founded the fest, again played their second album Tired of Tomorrow for its 10th anniversary, bringing out Zofia Smith of she’s green (who played earlier in the evening) to join them on “Nineteen Ninety Heaven.”
Chapterhouse, who are also recently back in action, brought out Rachel Staggs from All in the Golden Afternoon to do Rachel Goswell’s part on “Pearl.” They mixed in a few different songs, but mostly kept to a similar setlist as Friday.

They sounded loud and amazing, as did MA shoegaze vets Swirlies. So many legends on one bill.
