Gelli Haha turned Bowery Ballroom into a Bounce House with whimsical ‘Switcheroo’ show (pics, video)

What to say about Gelli Haha‘s weird, whimsical, wonderful show besides it was a total blast? She and her troupe of musicians and dancers brought last year’s great Switcheroo to giddy life in what I can only describe as Bjork meets Kate Bush and Of Montreal at Pee-wee’s Playhouse. They performed the album front-to-back as a full on stage production with inventive choreography, DIY props, bubbles, inflatable dolphins, trampolines for “Bounce House,” and more.

Bowery Ballroom was as packed as I’ve ever seen it and the crowd was ready to party and dance, and I was smiling the entire time. After Switcheroo, Gelli and the crew came back out to play new single “Klouds Will Carry Me To Sleep,” and that was it — one of the most fun hours I’ve had in a long time. Go see her if her tour comes to a town near you.

Opening duo Big Sis were also a lot of fun, and their very saucy brand of dancepop brought to mind the electroclash heyday of Le Tigre, Peaches and Miss Kittin.

The party continued over at Night Club 101 where Gelli DJ’d b2b with De Luxe and others late into the night.
