Foo Fighters played deep cuts at first show with new drummer Ilan Rubin (pics, video, setlist)
Foo Fighters returned to the stage on Saturday (9/13) for their first show of the year, a surprise set at San Luis Obispo’s Fremont Theater that they’d announced the night before and only sold tickets to in person. It was their first show with their new drummer Ilan Rubin (formerly of Nine Inch Nails, who now have former Foos drummer Josh Freese back with them), and they broke out some deep cuts for the occasion, playing “Exhausted” and “Winnebago” for the first time since 2014, “Have It All” for the first time since 2015, and “Alone + Easy Target” for the first time since 2018. See photos from the show by Andi Taylor and Alexis Gross, attendee-taken video, and the setlist below. Foos will play a second surprise show tonight (9/15) at Santa Ana, CA’s The Observatory. Like Saturday night’s show, tickets were sold in person only on Sunday. Rubin, meanwhile, reflected on his first show with Foos on Instagram, writing, “Last night with Foo Fighters could not have been a better time. After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy. I’ve been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks! Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead.”
