Ecstatic Music Fest: Irreversible Entanglements, Amina Claudine Myers & Nicole Mitchell (pics)

The 2019 Ecstatic Music Festival, which pairs modern classical with pop, rock, jazz artists for unique collaborations, continued on February 28 for a show that brought together free jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements, pianist/vocalist/improviser Amina Claudine Myers, and composer/flutist Nicole Mitchell. There were three sets: solos, duos and trios with Meyers, Mitchell and Irreversible Entanglements’ poet Camae Ayewa; then a set from Irreversible Entanglements (including alto saxophonist Keir Neuringer, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, double bassist Luke Stewart and Tcheser Holmes on drums); and finally a set with everyone together for the premiere of a collaborative piece commissioned by the festival. Pictures from the night are in the gallery above.

Next up at the Ecstatic Music Festival is the annual Bang on a Can People’s Commissioning Fund Concert on Wednesday (3/6), which will feature premieres of works by composers Nicole Lizée, Josué Collado Fregoso, Henry Threadgill and Trevor Weston. Tickets are still available.
