Cyndi Lauper‘s Girls Just Want to Have Fun Farewell Tour hit her hometown of NYC on Wednesday night (10/30) for a big show at Madison Square Garden. She kicked things off with “She Bop” and the hits kept coming, including her cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine,” “All Through the Night,” “Change of Heart,” “I Drove All Night,” “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough,” and more. She and her band performed against a wall of LED screens that looked like folding dressing screens that mixed big-screen footage of the show with nostalgic clips of Cyndi from throughout her 40+ year career. She also told lots of stories between songs and has lost none of her quirky charm. She’s still so unusual!
Near the end of the main set, Cyndi brought out Sam Smith to duet with her on “Time After Time,” before closing out the main set with “Money Changes Everything.” The three-song encore opened with her 2002 single “Shine” before two of her biggest hits: “True Colors” and then, of course, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
