Black Country, New Road thrilled at Bowery Ballroom shows (night 2 pics, setlists)

Black Country, New Road released their fantastic new album Forever Howlong last month, and they began their North American tour supporting it with a trio of NYC shows last week – an intimate Rough Trade instore on Tuesday (5/6), followed by Bowery Ballroom shows on Friday and Saturday (5/9-5/10). I went to Saturday night’s show, where the room began filling immediately after doors opened and it was packed for @‘s opening duo set. Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” played over the PA as Black Country, New Road took to a dimly lit stage, and proceeded to play all of Forever Howlong. They played much of the album in order, switching up just a few songs towards the middle, and adding in “The Boy” from their 2023 live album Live at Bush Hall (which features the material they performed on tour following the departure of singer/guitarist Isaac Wood). The new material sounds sublime live, and it was thrilling to watch them pull it off in all of its intricacies and details, switching instruments and occasionally switching spots onstage. Both nights at Bowery featured similar sets, with Friday night getting Live At Bush Hall track “Turbines/Pigs” in place of “The Boy,” and Rough Trade getting a shortened set.
