Hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach with Ramones-themed ferries

This year marks NYC punk icons Ramones‘ 50th anniversary, and Friday is the 50th anniversary of their first-ever show at CBGB. To celebrate there are a few Ramones events in the city this weekend.

The NYC Ferry will host Ramones-themed commutes on Friday (8/16) and Saturday (8/17) from Wall St / Pier 11, Sunset Park, and Rockaway at select rides during the afternoon. They will feature (via NYC Ferry):

  • An exclusive ‘50 Years of Ramones’ sticker for riders (while supplies last)
  • “Rockaway Beach” played at the top of the ride as the vessel leaves Wall St./Pier 11, plus Ramones video/pics shown on the ferry’s digital screens
  • Free samples of locally-owned Rockaway Soda
  • Raffle for an exclusive Ramones prize pack from Rhino Records

They also note that once you’re at the Rockaways, the Rockaway Beach Bakery will have limited edition ‘Ra-scones’ and ‘Now I Wanna Sip Some (Cold) Brew’. For departure times and more, check out the posters below.

You can see footage of that first Ramones CBGB show in 2003 documentary End of the Century: The Story of The Ramones which will screen Friday at Queens Theatre in Corona Park (14 United Nations Ave S) at 8 PM. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with special guests TBA. Tickets are on sale. Watch the trailer below.

We picked Leave Home as Ramones’ best album.
