East Village Radio, the beloved online radio station that broadcast out of a storefront studio on 1st Ave, shut down as we knew it back in 2014 (it continued on, sort of, through Dash Radio till 2016), but owner Frank Prisinzano has announced that it is returning to its original space next door to Lil’ Frankies.
“My plan is now to relaunch the station with sponsors, which is how we should have done it from the beginning,” says Prisinzano. “We’re starting again & considering all the problems we had before and implementing new solutions. We’re hoping to relaunch in April 2024.”
To help guide the new EVR, Prisinzano has enlisted Brian Turner, formerly of WFMU, to “rekindle an exciting new array of sounds and personalities on the stream.” The station adds: “Our focus will continue to be progressive sounds and ideas; stick around and stay with us as we grow.”
During its original run, East Village Radio featured shows by a wide range of hosts, including a few big names like Mark Ronson, Steve Lillywhite, Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls, and Smiths bassist Andy Rourke.
