Chappell Roan caps off her massive breakout year by doing a 44-minute interview with Nardwuar. It took place at LA’s Sonido Del Valle Records and begins with Nardwuar gifting Chappell Roan a vinyl record by drag legend Divine, and he then goes on to ask her about music she grew up hearing at home, talent shows and other very early shows she played, her love for cult artists like Daniel Johnston and The Shaggs, local spots from her hometown, needing to lip-sync a few shows after getting alcohol poisoning, her SNL outfits, meeting Tyler, the Creator, and much more. Other gifts he gave her include a record by Orville Peck’s former punk band Nü Sensae, a history of gay jazz record, the first Grimes LP, a Magnetic Fields LP, a 45 of The Zombies’ “Time of the Season,” and an original 1996 Alanis Morissette concert poster. She also talked about her 2024 Governors Ball set “changing her whole career,” covering Heart’s “Barracuda,” her love of Joan Jett, and more. Watch the full interview below.
