MJ Lenderman joined Waxahatchee earlier this year to perform their collaborative song “Right Back To It” on Colbert, and last night he made his own late night TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He played “Wristwatch,” one of the standout tracks from his excellent new album Manning Fireworks, joined by his backing band The Wind and his Wednesday bandmate Karly Hartzman on backing vocals. As they’re known to do, The Wind got live and loose with it, especially when MJ broke out his J Mascis-worthy guitar solo at the end. Watch below.
“My songs are kind of written in a way that allows them to change in a live setting,” Lenderman told us in our latest cover story, while discussing The Wind’s 2023 live album. “So, after we’d been playing them for long enough, they had morphed into places that I felt were worth documenting. And the energy of the live shows, I wanted to share that with people too.”
The other guests on the episode were Shaquille O’Neal and Chloë Sevigny, the latter of whom discussed her cameo in Charli XCX‘s “360” video during her interview, and MJ Lenderman also wore a Shaq shirt on stage for the occasion and met the NBA legend backstage:

MJ Lenderman and The Wind’s tour picks back up in Atlanta on October 3, and he’s got three NYC shows that same month at Music Hall of Williamsburg (Oct. 25, 26 & 27) with Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band. He also already announced that he’ll return to NYC in 2025 for two bigger shows at Brooklyn Steel (April 29 & 30) with This Is Lorelei on night one and Nap Eyes on night two. Many dates on the fall tour are already sold out. All dates are listed below.
