Watch LCD Soundsystem & Pulp cover Heaven 17’s “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” at Hollywood Bowl

Pulp wrapped up their North American tour on Friday night at Hollywood Bowl, the second of two nights with co-headliners LCD Soundsystem at the iconic LA venue. LCD played last and near the end of their set they brought out Pulp to cover Heaven 17‘s 1981 electro new wave classic “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang.”

This is notable for a few reasons: Heaven 17, a spin-off of The Human League, are from Sheffield, same as Pulp; LCD Soundsystem covered “Fascist Groove Thang” for an Amazon session back in 2018 but this was the first time they’ve played it live; James Murphy produced Pulp’s 2013 single “After You“; and as James Murphy noted on stage, the song’s lyrics are as relevant today as they were 44 years ago, maybe moreso.

Jarvis Cocker and Nancy Whang turned the song into a duet, with the rest of Pulp singing backup. Watch below.

LCD will be in NYC for their annual holiday run starting in November.
