Watch LCD Soundsystem pay tribute to Shane MacGowan & cover The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” at final night of NYC run

Sunday night was the last show of LCD Soundsystem‘s 2023 Tri-Boro Tour, where they played 12 shows at three different NYC venues. Things wrapped at Queens’ Knockdown Center, and during the night’s penultimate song, “New York, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down,” they paid tribute to Shane MacGowan (who died on November 30) by covering a bit of The Pogues’ holiday classic “Fairytale of New York.” Drummer Pat Mahoney sang it, with Nancy Whang on piano, with a verse and the chorus before crashing back into the noisy end of “New York, I Love You.” It was a genuine, sweet moment and you can watch a video clip of that below.

The Knockdown Center shows were different from the Brooklyn Steel and Terminal 5 shows on the Tri-Boro Tour, as they had an opening act (Nation of Language) and encouraged everyone to stick around for the afterparty with DJs in two rooms and James Murphy’s restaurant Four Horsemen hosting a natural wine pop-up. The whole night felt more like a party than your average LCD show. Check out Sunday’s setlist below.
