“I’m gonna try and read this Lou Reed poem,” Dan Bejar said mid-set at Brooklyn Steel, fumbling with a couple sheets of paper as the rest of Destroyer started playing behind him. It was a cover of “Ecstasy,” the title track off Lou’s 2000 solo album. Dan’s half-sung-half-spoken style is perfect for Lou’s words, and the band — with JP Carter‘s ethereal, treated trumpet style –made it sound majestic. Destroyer had first covered it on the Boston stop of their tour the night before, but doing it Lou’s home (and doing it just a few days after his birthday) felt special. Watch video of that below.
