Co Pilot, the duo of Jim Noir‘s Alan Roberts and The Soundcarriers‘ Leonore Wheatley, put out their fantastic debut LP, Rotate, over the summer. It’s creative mix of baroque psych, prog, synthpop, krautrock, and just a little Manchester baggy. One of the best songs on Rotate is the skipping “Motosaka” which is a tribute to Yellow Magic Orchestra and incorporates a sample of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Thousand Knives” that received the blessing of both Sakamoto and YMO’s Haruomi Hosono. “We just kept listening back and hitting gold,” Al says of the song. “I was thinking ‘yeah, not sure what this is but I like it! We were buzzing with what we had made.”
“Motosaka” is now the official new single off the album and we’ve got the premiere of the cinematic, psychedelic music video which was directed by Ian Rainford. You can watch it below.
