Camp Cope‘s sophomore album How to Socialise & Make Friends is one of our very favorite albums of the year so far, so we’re excited to learn that they just released an NPR Tiny Desk Concert where they played two of the album’s standout songs: the music industry sexism-battling “The Opener” and the sexual assault-battling “The Face of God.” After playing those two, they closed out with “Keep Growing” from their 2016 split with Cayetana. They filmed the session during their recent US tour, and just like they did when we caught them in NYC, they sounded fantastic. Georgia Maq’s voice is even more of a force live than on album (and it’s a pretty huge force on album too), and that’s very clear from this video. Watch below.
PS, have you ever wondered where the name Camp Cope comes from? It’s a play on Camp Cove. Bassist Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich recently posted an Instagram story with a picture of the actual Camp Cove, and wrote “Being emo about going from night swimming here every other week to living my first Collingwood winter.” See below:
