Britpop greats Blur are in the States to play Coachella but as a warm up they stopped by Pomona, CA’s Fox Theater for an official festival sideshow and their first show in this country since playing NYC’s Madison Square Garden in 2015. Interestingly, the Pomona show also featured the same Blur fan who shouted Phil Daniels’ “Parklife” verses at MSG to do the same on Wednesday night. Like at MSG, she nailed it.
The Fox Theatre show was mostly a greatest hits set, though they did play three songs from 2023’s fantastic The Ballad of Darren, including “St Charles Square” which opened the night. The show also featured the live debut of 2010 comeback single “Fool’s Day.” The band welcomed choir Torres Martinez Cahill Bird Singers mid-set for a short performance backed by frontman Damon Albarn, and stuck around to sing on “Death of a Party,” which Blur hadn’t played in 10 years. They came back out during the encore for “Tender.”
The show also featured classics including “Song 2,” “Girls and Boys,” “This is a Low,” “Coffee & TV,” “Beetlebum,” “Popscene,” “The Universal,” “Sing,” and more. Checkout the full Pomona setlist and lots of video below.
Blur play both weekends of Coachella on Saturday on the main Coachella Stage.
