Minneapolis indie-pop-punks VIAL have announced a followup to 2021’s LOUDMOUTH, titled burnout and due March 29 via Get Better Records (pre-order). Along with the announcement comes new single “falling short,” which is the fourth track released from the album so far. It’s a 90-second poppy punk ripper that comes with a house show music video and an arena-sized chorus. If you’re into stuff like Mannequin Pussy or the punky Olivia Rodrigo songs and you haven’t checked out VIAL yet, start now.
The album also includes “ur dad,” a brat-punk anthem with a storyline that plays out like a gender-flipped “Stacy’s Mom”; “just fine,” a caffeinated power pop ode to being okay with feeling not good but fine; and “therapy pt. iii,” a mock therapy session interlude track. It’s all really promising and all streaming below. There’s also a non-album ska version of “just fine” made with VIAL’s recent tourmate JER.
