Vanity (real name Denise Matthews), the onetime Prince protege and singer for Vanity 6, died today at 57. Shelia E shared the sad news on Twitter. Best known for her hit “Nasty Girl” with Vanity 6, Matthews also had a successful acting career, appearing in such films as The Last Dragon, 52 Pick-Up, and Action Jackson. After a near-fatal crack cocaine overdose in 1994, and became a born-again Christian and dedicated her life to evangelism.
