Experimental trio Vanishing Twin are back with their fifth album, Archives, which will be out October 2 via Fire. The band’s Cathy Lucas says the title represents their working process: “gathering material together, riffing with it, turning it around on itself, trying to put the pieces together and create a story with it.”
The band have shared two songs with the album announcement: “Bring Me the Axe,” which really showcases percussionist Valentina Magaletti’s awesome abilities, and the patchwork collage that is the title track. “Bring Me The Axe is loosely based on the story of Lizzy Borden, famous for the 1892 Fall River Murders,” says Lucas. “It’s about extremes. Extreme acts, extreme heat, and sonic extremes, the folkloric and the industrial.”
