Just when you thought you’d never have to hear about the Grateful Dead again, along come young Deadheads Ultimate Painting with the new song “(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues” off their upcoming Green Lanes (due 8/7 via Trouble In Mind). The Dead’s reputation as a jam band may be their most widely known one, but Ultimate Painting also know that they were an excellent studio band on albums like Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, and “Sanctioned Blues” could easily fit on either of those. There are other influences from that era at play here too though; it could just as easily fit on Sticky Fingers or Loaded. Listen below.
Ultimate Painting’s tour brings them to NYC on September 18 at Rough Trade. Tickets for that show are still available.
