As mentioned Twin Peaks is at SXSW promoting the upcoming new Showtime episodes with a two-day pop up that has a miniature version of the show’s RR Diner — complete with free pie, coffee and specially decorated donuts. The event drew a few cosplayers dressed as The Log Lady, Audrey Horne and other Twin Peaks characters. Check out a few instagrams from the opening of RR’s SXSW branch below. Those who want the real thing are gonna have to go to North Bend, Washington.
Meanwhile, Agent Cooper himself — Kyle MacLachlan — is in Austin too and swung by the RR and Showtime House (aka Clive Bar or Rainey St) as part of today’s Twin Peaks themed showcase with a stage made to look like the Black Lodge and performances from Real Estate, Julie Byrne and more. There will be more Twin Peaks on Rainey St on Friday, too.
UPDATE: Kyle was back at the Showtime House on Thursday night to introduce Real Estate‘s headlining set. The band set the mood by playing a bit of Angelo Badalamenti’s iconic Twin Peaks theme, followed by some slightly awkward banter by Kyle (can we call him Real Estate Agent Cooper now?) and a plug for the new episodes.
Kyle has also taken over Showtime’s Instagram account today and he’s made an Agent Cooper-themed Spotify played called “Coffeetime,” featuring “song lyrics that echo key themes from a dark past and maybe a hint at the future.” Adds Kyle, “I’ll admit it’s 60’s/’70’s heavy. I guess it’s true when they say you can never escape your past.” Listen to that below.
The new season of Twin Peaks premieres May 21 on Showtime.
