After much teasing, Thurston Moore has finally, officially announced his new solo album, Flow Critical Lucidity, due September 20 via his own Daydream Library Series (pre-order). He made it with his Group–Deb Googe (also of My Bloody Valentine) on bass, James Sedwards on guitar/piano/organ/glockenspiel, Wobbly (aka Jon Leidecker) on electronics, and Jem Doulton on percussion–and the just-released single “Sans Limites” features backing vocals from Stereolab’s Lætitia Sadier.
“‘Sans Limites’ begins with a cyclic guitar & piano figure which expands further and further with each revolution before settling into a two-chord measure introducing lyrics intoning not only about eradicating any limitations towards enlightenment, but going beyond limitations,” Thurston says. The idea that a soldier can fight the good fight. A warrior against war.” Listen below.
The album also features recent singles “Rewilding” and “Hypnogram,” and the vinyl edition comes with a bonus flexi featuring a Bedazzled Mix of recent single “Isadora.” The album art features a photo of Thurston’s longtime friend Jamie Nares’ “Samurai Walkman,” a helmet with tuning forks jetting out of it.
Thurston also recently penned a lengthy tribute to Steve Albini, and he appears in the new two-and-a-half minute teaser video for the upcoming Butthole Surfers documentary.
