Thom Yorke stays extremely prolific. The Smile already two albums this year, Thom released a score for Confidenza, he’s gearing up to adapt Radiohead’s Hail to the Thief for a new stage production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that premieres next year, and he just began a solo tour in New Zealand and debuted a new song at night one. The song is called “Back In The Game,” and it sets his unmistakable voice against an airy yet pounding electronic backdrop. Judging by fan-shot footage, it sounds pretty great. Check it out below.
Thom’s setlist also featured a handful of songs that he has rarely (if ever) played solo. He did multiple Radiohead songs, The Smile’s “Bodies Laughing,” Atoms For Peace’s “Default,” his 1998 Unkle collaboration “Rabbit In Your Headlights,” and songs from all across his solo career. Meanwhile, after Colin Greenwood threw fuel on the fire of Radiohead potentially coming back, Thom was asked by Australia’s Double J what he makes of all the conjecture about the future of Radiohead, he replied, “I am not aware of it and don’t really give a flying fuck.”
“No offence to anyone and err, thanks for caring,” he added. “But I think we’ve earned the right to do what makes sense to us without having to explain ourselves or be answerable to anyone else’s historical idea of what we should be doing.”
