This Is Lorelei‘s Nate Amos is becoming a real “your favorite songwriter’s favorite songwriter” type. He already got MJ Lenderman and Snail Mail covering “Dancing in the Club” and “Two Legs,” respectively, on the deluxe edition of his excellent 2024 album Box for Buddy, Box for Star (which also included a great cover of “Angel’s Eye” by his father and sister Bob and Sarah Amos), and since then, others like Waxahatchee and Geese’s Cameron Winter have performed This Is Lorelei covers live, and now he has announced a “super deluxe” version of Box for Buddy, Box for Star that has other artists covering every song on the album.
Waxhatchee contributes a recorded cover of the gorgeous rendition of “Where’s Your Love Now” that she’s played live a handful of times, and it also includes Hayley Williams covering “Perfect Hand” with her new Power Snatch project, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy teaming with NYC duo fantasy of a broken heart (who are both members of This Is Lorelei’s live band) for “My Boy Limbo,” Tim Heidecker doing “An Extra Beat For You and Me,” SASAMI doing “I’m All Fucked Up,” LUCY (Cooper B. Handy) doing the title track, Momma doing “A Song The Sings About You,” and the previously released MJ Lenderman, Snail Mail, and Bob & Sarah Amos covers.
Box for Buddy, Box for Star (Super Deluxe) arrives April 17 via Double Double Whammy (pre-order), and along with the announcement comes the rendition of “Perfect Hand” by Hayley Williams’ Power Snatch project. It finds Hayley and producer/multi-instrumentalist Daniel James turning the song into the same kind of moody, skeletal indie rock heard on the recent Power Snatch EP, with the charm of the original coming through as well.
“We’ve both been fans of Nate’s for a long time,” says Daniel, “and loved getting to rework one of our favorite This is Lorelei songs. His natural way with lyrics and melodies made it easy to translate the song to a different place for this project. It also happened to be the song that started Power Snatch.”
Nate adds, “Getting to hear Hayley and Dan’s beautiful take on ‘Perfect Hand’ for the first time was surreal, getting to contribute vocals was even more so. Couldn’t be more stoked for this to exist.”
