As The War On Drugs gear up to kick off their co-headlining tour with The National, they’ve announced a new album. Titled Live Drugs Again, it’s a sequel to 2020’s Live Drugs, and it was recorded on tour between February 2022 and December 2023 in America, the UK, Europe, and Australia. Bandleader Adam Granduciel says, “Live Drugs Again chronicles the evolution of these songs from the studio to stages all over the world; documenting our continued growth as a live band. This series ensures that these versions, and some of our favorite moments on stage, will live on.”
The first single released is an energized rendition of “Burning,” a standout from their beloved 2014 album Lost in the Dream. Check that out below. The album comes out September 13 via Super High Quality Records, and pre-orders are up now.
The live version of “Burning” is one of two songs The War On Drugs released today; the other is their cover of Tom Petty‘s “You Wreck Me” from the soundtrack for the new Vince Vaughn series Bad Monkey, which doubles as a Tom Petty covers album. It probably comes as no surprise that TWOD are perfect for a propulsive heartland rock anthem like “You Wreck Me,” and their rendition is great. Listen below. The album comes out on October 4 and also includes Petty covers by Jason Isbell, Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Eddie Vedder, Weezer, and more.
