The National are currently on a co-headlining tour with The War On Drugs, who just released a live album earlier this month, and now The National have announced a live album of their own. Titled Rome, it was recorded live at Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone on June 3, 2024, and a press release says no overdubs were added. It comes out on December 13 via 4AD (pre-order).
Along with the announcement, The National have shared four of the album’s 21 songs in the form of a digital EP called NTL RM EP I, including “I Need My Girl,” “Lemonworld,” “The Geese of Beverly Road” and “Lit Up.” As I’d imagine most National fans would agree, they’ve always had a different energy to their live shows that separates them from the records, and these recordings really capture that energy. Listen and check out the full tracklist below.
Meanwhile, during their current tour with The War On Drugs, The National have been bringing out The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel for a cover of Echo & the Bunnymen‘s “Bring On the Dancing Horses,” and at Saturday’s show in Akron, OH, The War On Drugs recreated a viral Bob Dylan moment during their set. Watch videos of both of those occurrences below as well.
