The Menzingers have announced a new album, Some Of It Was True, due October 13 via Epitaph (pre-order). The album was produced by Brad Cook (Waxhatchee, Kevin Morby, etc) at Sonic Ranch studio in Texas and mixed by past collaborator Jon Low. It includes recent single “There’s No Place In This World For Me” and the just-released second single “Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing.” Like the first single, “Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing” is a little more ragged and a little more Americana, but still with that trademark Menzingers twist. It comes with a Bob Sweeney-directed video that splices together hazy, nostalgia-inducing clips, including on-stage footage of The Menzingers. Check it out below.
Co-vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett says, “Written over the last two and a half years in hotels, backstages, basements, and rehearsal rooms and recorded during a life-changing retreat down south, ‘Some Of It Was True’ is the most realized version of what we set out to do when we started this band 17 years ago—have fun and be ourselves.”
“This record just feels different for us,” Greg continues. “It’s a really important one in our catalog, and a pivotal moment in our history. We have the liberty of our fans growing with us now, and after writing these lyrical songs about where we are in life, we decided to take other peoples’ stories and make something bigger out of it.”
Of working with Brad Cook, co-vocalist/guitarist Tom May said, “Brad massively changed the way we were approaching the record. We’d talk about music and develop a vocabulary about how to work together, and that made us embrace chasing the feeling instead worrying about locking in things immediately.”
Brad himself adds, “The Menzingers are as real as it gets. I had an absolute blast working with these guys and was moved to tears many times. They are truly dedicated to artistic growth, and to each other, in ways I found both refreshing and beautiful. I am now a lifer.”
The Menzingers are on tour with Prince Daddy & the Hyena and Mercy Union, and they’ve got a fall tour with Microwave, Cloud Nothings, and Rodeo Boys. The fall tour hits NYC on November 11 at Knockdown Center. All dates are listed below.
